Cats Up North is the comment section for the entire internet. With our extension, every URL has a comment section where you can discuss the content and support your favorite creators with crypto tips. Who knows, that creator may even comment on your tip-chat live or use your idea in their next article! Cats Up North is anonymous, so make sure you are sending money to the right person. Creators should communicate their username and/or thread ID to help supporters find them.
Simply open the sidebar extension on the current URL you are on and create a thread or join an existing one to voice your opinion. There is no censorship, and you have the choice to be completely anonymous. And we mean it: we don't store user data and you never have to enter it! So feel free to rate a product you like, fact check a journalist, or chat it up with gamers on a stream. Enjoy chats without being tracked, and support your favorite creators knowing they will receive a higher percentage of your tips than on Twitch, YouTube, Patreon, and others that take up to half.
Create a thread for your cat blog, gaming stream, news article, or any of your creative endeavors and allow people to discuss your content and support you. Don't let big tech take half your earnings! You only cover the cost of the crypto transaction fees + 5% of each tip. Not that we batch our payouts so fees are very low.
More communication is better than less. Let's give the internet back to the people. Websites, the media, politicians, companies, and others with platforms have lots of power to advance their viewpoints. Let's let the people discuss right there in front of the public, without ever leaving the page. Plus, creators shouldn't have to pay a huge tax to the platforms that host your content. YOU are making culture and art. The platforms (and cats up north) are just a bunch of server nerds.
Check out the Download tab to download the extension. These instructions will also tell you how to create a wallet. Pin the extension to your browser and click it to open the side-bar. There is a tiny fractional cost to send a chat. This is to reduce the amount of bots, reduce malicious attacks on our systems, and to help make chats slightly more meaningful. You can send any amount of BTC or XMR as a tip to support your favorite creators. No need to spend it all. You can also withdraw your balance at any time. While you pay the transaction fee to create a wallet, we pay the transaction fee for withdrawals. Withdrawals aka payouts are processed nightly to reduce network fees.
You might notice something odd when you send your first chat. You may see that your name is "Margret Thatcher" or "Bugs Bunny". Because everyone on this platform is entirely anonymous, we automatically assign users a randomly generated name every 100 chats. This helps us get to know each other a little better instead of just being a number! Users can also choose a preferred name. Many users can have the same preferred name, so there might be a lot of 'Steve Urkels' running around here. This is by design. Users who chose to purchase a verified name will have that on their particular wallet for life. No one else can use it! These are identified by the "$" symbol at the start of usernames. Even if you change your verified name, your old verified names will remain associated with your wallet. These helps to ensure you are supporting the creator you choose.
When you create a wallet, you will be quoted a chat rate. The extension will automatically purchase 100 chats at a time at this rate.
Being charged per chat might seem odd, but we are neither ad supported nor do we sell your personal information to data brokers.
With the exception of your BTC address, we don't collect any personal information. To remain totally anonymous, we recommend using XMR.
The chat fee also prevents bots from spamming chats. While our chat fee may seem high, remember Cats Up North is primarily a tool for
supporting creators and dissidents with Crypto.
When you have sent your 100th chat, a new 100 chats will be purchased at the cost you were originally quoted.
That means if we ever raise the price-per-chat, it won't effect any of the Cats Up North wallets you have already created.
When requesting a withdrawal to your bitcoin wallet, you will incur the network fee (on the blockchain) to transfer those funds plus a
percentage fee on tips received (we need to buy our children shoes and pay the electric bill!).
Verified users can purchase a verified user name for a fee as well. Verified user names help users find your official threads.
If a creator would like to save money and/or remain anonymous while still collecting tips,
they can simply include a reference their thread ID in their content!
